RetroPie: Old School is Back!

It’s been a while! Ever since my PS3 went offline thanks to my sister-in-law blowing the transformer with a curling iron and my daughter going berserk at the sight of a PC game demanding to see ‘Uncle jumping’ (Fallout 4) resulting in 30 minutes of the Lone Wanderer leaping up and down in place or occasionally blasting settlement dwellers, houses, and landscape away with assorted weaponry, my gaming’s been on a break.

Until last night, when I finally got a retro console emulation station set up on a raspberry pi.

This is awesome! A base Raspian OS, with a RetroPie image layered on, a simple D-pad configured... and I’m rolling! Added in a couple of ROMs - this is going to be a fun exercise - and I now have a fully functional palm-sized device that can emulate almost any game and gaming system I grew up with.

SNES and NES work, no issues. PS2 I still need to figure out the Bios settings - got the Shadow of the Colossus ROM (whoa!) but can’t get it to run, not sure if it’s a specs issue or BIOS - and obviously all RTS and FPS games are out, not D-pad friendly enough - but console and gamepad based titles are going to be awesome.

Time to get the next generation into gaming, the old school way!
